PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

As I’m sure most of you know, your club was not spared due to the flooding that took place throughout the city last month. We had approximately 8’ of water in the downstairs bar area. As the torrential rain caused the creek to overflow on the west side of the property the sandbagging effort was no match for the rapid rising water. The damage was devastating. The entire basement has been gutted and the clean up process has begun.

There’s no way I can begin to name all of the people who have been working tireless hours during this unfortunate situation, but I would like to thank our Maintenance Trustee, Tim Reed for coordinating this painful project.

Extremely important issues regarding the future of your club will be addressed at a special meeting that will be held on April 15th. Please plan on attending. You will be receiving notification by mail shortly.

With spring approaching we need to express our thanks to Rod Johnson, youth basketball, Mike Hohman, youth bowling and Michelle Schmidt, women’s volleyball for seeing over these programs. A Special thanks also to Bones and his crew for an outstanding job on his virgin fry voyage.

Joleen Burns has graciously volunteered to chair the nominating committee for the upcoming June election. Please see her if you are interested in running for office.

I’m currently looking for volunteers to assist with this year’s William Whetstone Memorial Softball Tournament that is scheduled for the second weekend in July. See me if interested.

The next couple of months are going to be crucial: MAKE A DIFFERENCE

See you at the club

 Jim Markland

CORNHOLE LEAGUE

Cornhole League will be cancelled the month of April due to damage done to the club facilities by high water during the recent rains. League members will be helping clean up the club room damaged by high water.

We will resume and finish in May.

**SPECIAL MEETING**

Wednesday April 15th, 2009 7pm

Discussion of flooding and future plans for the club.

Be there if you want a “say”.

The club has been through a devastating flood. Many people tried to keep the flood waters out, but to no avail. The entire basement was flooded almost to the ceiling in a matter of minutes. The basement has been gutted and needless to say we are in desperate need of money. The Insurance coverage falls far short of replacement needs as flood insurance does not cover “contents”. If you can send a donation, please mail it to

Fort Wayne Turners       3636 Parnell Ave      Fort Wayne Indiana 46805

Att: Dori Hartman, Treasurer

Any Member that has special skills in building, plumbing, electrical and would like to volunteer to help “rebuild, please call one of the board members!! The numbers are on the front page of the Newsletter.

TURNER GARAGE SALE

A “Garage Sale“ will be held in the gym, Friday May 1st 8:30am to 6:00pm and Saturday May 2nd 8:30 to 3pm to benefit our club that was devastated by flooding, March 12 & 13,2009.

We need your donated items for sale to help replace everything that was downstairs, as very little could be saved and the flood insurance doesn’t cover “contents”.

Please bring your donations to Turners anytime between Monday April 20th thru Wed April 29th. Mark the boxes or sacks “Sale” and leave them in the covered porch that leads into the gym, it will be unlocked and the committee will store them until the sale. We will gladly accept any saleable items. If you have large items or need a pick up of items call:

Val Miller  486-5861   Jan Hayward  450-0960
